Water consumption has dropped to its lowest level over the past three years in August 2010 when it averaged 12,75 million litres a day for the month compared to 31,9 million litres a day in August 2009 and 25,4 million litres a day in August 2008. The Mossel Bay Municipality announced that there will be sufficient water for the year-end holiday season, as well as until the new 15 Ml a day seawater desalination reaches full production. A new calibration of the Wolwedans Dam, which the dam’s owner, the Department of Water Affairs, announced last week, showed its level was down to 16,62 per cent instead of 18,5 per cent as advised initially. The level of the Wolwedans Dam, Mossel Bay’s main source of potable water, this week dropped to less than 19 per cent, and at according to the Department of Water Affairs, stood at 18,5 per cent at the beginning of the week. Although the level of the Wolwedans Dam dropped to 19,7 per cent at the beginning of the week and continues to drop, there were still 432 households which used more than 30 kilolitres in July 2010.
